Golf Clothes - Does Golf Have a Dress Code?
Believe it or not "golf attire" is not goofy attire.
I think that many people have a certain look in mind when they think of the phrase, "golf attire": gaudy bright
shirts, plaid slacks and white shoes.
Despite the strange stereotype that some golfers adhere to, there is no rule that says you have to look this way on
the golf course. Although some courses have a very relaxed dress code for their golfers, most private courses, and
even some public courses, specify minimum requirements for golfing attire.
Now in my experience, these dress codes were not designed to make you wear the cliche, slightly goofy-looking golf
costume mentioned above. Most simply require a decent pair of slacks, a collar shirt, and proper shoes. The goal is
to have a neat and tasteful appearance on the golf course.
In short, you just need to use common sense. Most clubs or public courses want to encourage you to wear a shirt and
pants, or a skirt for women. Do not expect them to allow you on the golf course wearing only shorts, or a bathing
suit.
However, there are always people who are completely out of touch with etiquette and will show up on the course in
cut-offs and tank-top. You should just consider them to be the counter-example and not ideal to
follow.
