Lose Your Mind and Improve Your Swing.
Sometimes you just need to trust your instincts.
This golf swing advice may be nothing new to you, but it's
worth repeating until you actually "get it". It is very simple.
Leave your conscious mind in the golf bag. All profession
golfers know this and have worked for years to "turn off" their
conscious mind while taking their swing.
Easy to Say, But How Do I Do This?
For starters, you should have only the target in mind for
every shot you make, regardless of the type of shot you need to
make. Of course, prior to this you should have already
performed your practice swings, considered the variables and
percentages and have gone through your entire pre-shot set
up.
When it is time to make your swing all of these variables
should be forgotten with nothing but supreme focus on your
target. It is at this point that your subconscious is allowed
to work its magic by bringing together and coordinating all
your knowledge and skills.
Turning off the Mind
Now for the difficult part. You guessed it. How does one
just hit of off switch on all that mental activity? The
simplest answer is to just think like Forrest Gump. That sound
a little lame at first, but hear me out. Even though Gump never
spends any time over-analyzing what he plans to do, he is a
huge success at everything he tries.
Although the movie is just a story about a series of highly
unlikely adventures, the lesson we learn from it is a good one.
Go with the flow. Gump never obsessed over is football or
ping-pong strategy.
Every experienced golfer has their own way of tuning out all
of the golf lessons and variables when they need to make their
shot. Some players learn to focus on their breathing for a
moment or two. Another method is to taka a few practice swings
while paying attention to the feel of the swing rather than
trying to hit a target. A few golfers find it useful to just
sit and bring all their attention to bear on the target.
So your next order of business should be to find the
technique that works best for you. Learning to quiet your mind
is not terribly hard if you practice it with discipline.
Remember, an important difference between a professional and a
beginning golfer is mastering the ability of control mental
focus and having confidence on every shot.
